Nursery
Welcome to all our new Nursery pupils! We hope you are keen to start your learning journey in Rainbow Nursery!
In Nursery this half term, our Power of Reading book is ‘Owl Babies’. We will explore the book through our adult-led carpet sessions as well as in our learning environment. There will be copies of the story around the learning environment and characters for the pupils to begin role-playing with. We will also look at the theme of families, discussing who we live with at home.
In Maths, we will begin by looking at different groups of objects, noticing whether they are more or fewer. The pupils will have lots of opportunities to explore this independently when filling different sized buckets with dinosaurs. They will then begin to explore and build with different shapes, experimenting with different sized blocks.
Linking to our Power of Reading texts, pupils will learn to talk about people in their families and the things they do with their special people. They will have the opportunity to re-enact what happens at home in the Home Corner with their peers.
Within the Nursery, the role-play areas this half term will be a supermarket and a fire-station. Pupils will role-play visiting a shop with the opportunity for them to write their own shopping lists. They can even take their shopping back to the home corner to cook dinner for their families. Pupils will use various props and there will be mark-making and maths learning opportunities across the role-play areas.
As part of their learning within Expressive Arts and Design, pupils will have the opportunity to make their own paper plate owls, create firework pictures and make their own puppets.
With the season changing to Autumn the pupils will be exploring different autumnal resources such as pinecones, conkers and leaves. They will have the opportunity to sort the leaves into different colours in the nature garden as well as notice the changes to the plants around us.
We are excited for our first half term of learning! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any member of the Nursery Team at the door.
