Vision and Values

At Edward Pauling Primary School, our core values—Resilient, Empathetic, Respectful, Independent, Courageous, and Ambitious—are not just words; they are lived every day through the actions and attitudes of our children, staff, and wider school community.

  • Resilient: We encourage children to embrace challenges and learn from setbacks. For example, when faced with difficult tasks, children are supported to keep trying, knowing that perseverance leads to success. Our staff model resilience by maintaining a calm and positive approach, helping children to develop emotional regulation and bounce back from difficulties.

  • Empathetic: Our school community values kindness and understanding. Children are taught to listen to others’ perspectives and offer support when someone is upset or struggling. Activities such as peer mentoring and circle time discussions help children develop empathy and build strong, supportive friendships.

  • Respectful: Respect is shown in how we treat each other and our environment. Children are expected to use polite language, listen when others are speaking, and care for school property. Staff and children alike demonstrate respect by valuing diverse opinions and celebrating individual differences, creating an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels valued.

  • Independent: We foster independence by encouraging children to take responsibility for their learning and behaviour. For example, children are taught to organise their own resources, make choices about their learning activities, and reflect on their behaviour through restorative conversations. This prepares them to be self-motivated learners.

  • Courageous: Trying new things and stepping out of comfort zones is celebrated. Whether it’s participating in a new sport, speaking in front of the class, or admitting when they need help, children are supported to show bravery and take positive risks in their learning and personal growth.

  • Ambitious: We set high expectations for all children, encouraging them to aim high and achieve their best. Our curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire, and we celebrate achievements both big and small. Children are encouraged to set personal goals and reflect on their progress regularly.

These values are embedded in daily routines, lessons, and interactions, helping to create a calm, safe, and supportive environment where positive behaviour is the norm. Through consistent reinforcement and modelling by all staff, children internalise these values and understand how their behaviour impacts themselves and others. This shared commitment helps us build a strong, respectful school culture where every child can thrive.
