At Edward Pauling Primary School, our Art and Design curriculum nurtures creativity, independence, and resilience, encouraging children to take risks and view mistakes as a valuable part of the creative process, helping them grow and gain confidence in their abilities.
We aim to:
*Equip children with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent, create, and thoughtfully reflect on their own work and the work of others
*Introduce children to a diverse range of artists, designers, and art styles from diverse cultures, historical periods, and creative disciplines and use them as inspiration
*Ensure that children learn how art, craft and design have distinct roles and purposes in today’s world and across a range of times and cultures
*Explicitly teach different artistic skills, which they practice and develop as they progress through the school
*Foster a love of Art and Design by making connections across the curriculum, planning whole-school events and themed days, and starting to provide opportunities to visit museums and galleries
*Nurture confidence, resilience, and independence by encouraging children to take ownership of their sketchbooks and view mistakes as part of the creative journey
