At Edward Pauling Primary School, science inspires children to be curious about the world around them and to develop the knowledge and skills needed to think and work like scientists. Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils build a secure understanding of key scientific concepts while developing their ability to question, investigate, observe and explain.
Children develop their scientific knowledge and vocabulary across areas including plants, animals, materials, forces, energy, Earth and space, living things and their environments. They make connections between different areas of science and build on prior learning, developing a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Our pupils develop essential working scientifically skills, including asking questions, making predictions, planning and carrying out investigations, observing and measuring, recording and presenting results, identifying patterns, drawing conclusions and evaluating evidence. They learn to use equipment safely and appropriately and to communicate their findings using scientific language.
We encourage children to think critically, challenge ideas and use evidence to support their conclusions. Through practical investigations and real-world contexts, pupils develop curiosity, resilience, collaboration and problem-solving skills, while learning about the role science plays in our everyday lives and the wider world.
