Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers.

The Government believes that schools should decide how the Pupil Premium is allocated and spent, since it is felt that they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. From September 2012, schools have been required to publish online information about how they have used the Pupil Premium Grant. This ensures that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by this funding.

So far this year we have provided:

• A range of interventions to help children reach their full potential in all subjects across the curriculum e.g. Read Write Inc phonics, Big Maths, times tables and arithmetic.
• Lunchtime groups to support pupils' self esteem, attitudes to learning, sense of well-being and enjoyment of school and play therapy.
• Extra teaching and support staff to provide additional opportunities for pupils to practise key skills across the curriculum.
• 1:1 support and small group tuition
• Subsidies for school clubs, extra curricular activities, school trips and school journey

Pupil Premium and Free School Meals
An update for our parents

The Pupil Premium Grant was set up by the government in January 2011. It means that the school will receive additional funds for children who are eligible to receive free school meals or who have received free school meals within the past six years. Therefore, if you think your child might be entitled to free school meals, even if they are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 where they automatically receive a free school meal, it will help the school enormously if you register by completing the online application form attached which can be found at  https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20025/schools_and_colleges/61/free_school_meals on the Hounslow website.Please do this even if you do not intend your child to have free school meals.

You are entitled to Free School Meals if you are in receipt of

• Income Support
• Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
• Child Tax Credit Only (with income up to £16,190) with no element of Working Tax Credit
• National Asylum Seekers Support
• Guarantee Element of the State Pension Credit
• Employment and Support Allowance (income related)
• Universal Credit (income dependant)

If you are entitled to free school meals you are also entitled to free school milk for your child.

As you will be aware, families where pupils are entitled to free school meals will receive vouchers during the school holidays. The school will request these vouchers on your behalf once your entitlement to free school meals is confirmed. Families will receive vouchers to be used in supermarkets and also those for the Holiday and Activity Fund which allow them to book activities up to a determined limit during the school holidays.

Please note that vouchers are only issued to the families of pupils who receive a benefit as detailed above - this does not apply to families of pupils in Reception and Years 1 and 2 receiving universal infant free school meals.
