In Year 1 this term our focus book will be ‘Traction Man’. It is a wonderful story about a toy named Traction Man who comes to life and goes on exciting adventures!
In English, pupils will be learning to write in sentences. We will use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our writing and use these skills to write our own captions. Year 1 pupils will also begin to look at conjunctions through ‘and’, and will explore how it is used, including how it effects our writing.
In Maths, pupils will learn about number and place value and addition. We will begin to consolidate our knowledge of numbers beyond 20, learning about the importance of place value and how to find one more and one less than a quantity. Year 1 pupils will continue to use pictorial representations and a range of resources to support learning.
In Science, pupils will work scientifically to identify, describe and classify materials. We will begin to identify the properties of various materials and pupils will use investigations to test those properties.
In Humanities, pupils will look at important events in history, with a particular focus on the toys from the past. We will look at the similarities and differences between the toys now and toys from the Victorian era, as well as at other points throughout history.
PE will be every Monday afternoon so pupils must have the appropriate kit and all items of uniform should be labelled with your child’s name and class.
We look forward to an outstanding Autumn Term in Year 1.
