In Year 1 this term, our focus book will be ‘One Day on Our Blue Planet ... in the Savannah’ by Ella Bailey. It is a wonderful story which focuses on young animal friends and begins with a day as a curious lion cub. Minding his mother and playing with his father, this little lion can't help chasing trouble and fun as he explores the little corner of that big blue planet he shares with us. The book shares fantastic links to our Humanities studies on Africa and our Science studies on Animals.
In English, pupils will learn about nouns and how some nouns need a capital letter, these are names of specific people and places.
In Maths, Year 1 will be learning about multiplication and division. Pupils will continue to use pictorial representations and a range of resources to support our learning. Pupils will begin to solve one-step problems involving multiplication, by calculating the answer using concrete objects, pictorial representations and arrays.
In Science, pupils will identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. They will describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals including pets.
In Humanities, pupils will look at Africa and its major seas and countries. Pupils will identify the human and physical geography of Zimbabwe and compare them to our local area in Feltham.
PE will be every Monday afternoon and the children must have the appropriate kit in school. We advise all aspects of uniform should be labelled with your child’s name and class.
We look forward to an outstanding Spring Term 2 in Year 1.
