This week we learnt about scurvy and how it affected sailors. We found out that marmalade and jam became very popular with sailors when they discovered how important vitamin c was to their diets. Today we created our very own jam! We used strawberries, sugar, liquid pectin and lemon juice.

In IPC, as part of our topic 'What's on the Menu' we carried out some market research. We tasted different types of chocolate and rated them on their packaging, flavour, appearance and price. We then conducted a survey to find out what was most popular. Using this information, we then designed the packaging for our own products with a specific target market in mind.

This week Year 3 have started our new topic 'What's on the Menu?'. To introduce this topic, we had a big picnic! Each child was responsible for making something for our healthy picnic. The children decided to make jam sandwiches, cheese sandwiches, fruit salad and rice krispie cakes. After preparing the food, we went outside to the playground to have our picnic in the sunshine. The teachers were in charge of serving the food! Next week, the children will write instructions to teach others how to prepare the foods they made.

In IPC we imagined we were back in the Stone Age. We had to create a shelter to live in. We used our natural environment and equipment from the Playpod. Afterwards, we viewed all the other shelters. We reflected on what worked well and evaluated what we could have done differently. We also went on a scavenger hunt to find food to eat.

In IPC we have been looking at dinosaur fossils. We learned how fossils are formed and we created fossils of our own hands! We then wrote the instructions for making the fossils.

In Science we learned about food chains. We learned about producers and consumers and the difference between them. We went outside to create our own food chains!

In year 3 we have been learning about World War 2. We used Laptops and books to research The Blitz. In Maths we learnt about rationing, we used our knowledge of division to ration and make jam sandwiches. We constructed famous well known London buildings that were destroyed during The Blitz. We have also thought about all of the children that were evacuated during the war, and the emotions that they went through.

This is what we have been doing in Indigo Class!

For IPC we have been looking at the different dinosaurs from the different periods. The children are working in groups to decide which period they think each dinosaur is from

In Maths we have been looking at 3D shapes and their properties, some of the photos include our shape hunt around the school.

In Literacy we have been looking at diary entries and their features.
