Reception: Red Blue

Welcome to Reception!

This half term Reception will be learning all about under the sea.

Through this topic we will be learning all about all the living things under the sea, and pirates. We will learn about the creatures that live under the sea and make our own non-fiction books about them. We will also look at the different species of animals and compare. We will also create our own pirate ships and treasure maps and write our own pirate stories.

We will finish the term with a superheroes topic. We will think about what powers we would have if we were superheroes, create our own superheroes and write our own superhero stories.

Throughout all of our topics we focus on all 17 areas of the early year’s curriculum. We complete daily phonics lessons where the children are learning all of their individual sounds and how to blend them into words. This half term we will have a big push on the children being able to read and write sentences independently, including conjunctions such as ‘and’ and ‘because. We will also be focusing on the children adding more detail and description into their writing. High frequency words will continue to be sent home for your child to learn.

Within mathematics we will continue to focus on addition, subtraction, doubling, halving and money. We will be doing this in a very practical way through our role play Ice cream shop and pirate ship. On the weekend if you do visit any shops please encourage your child to select the coins to pay for various items and add prices together.

This half term we will also begin to put steps in place to ensure the children are ready for their transition to year one.

Please remember that Reception have P.E on a Monday and all children need their P.E kits. Reading books are also changed on a Monday/Tuesday and a Thursday/Friday, but please make sure they are in your child’s book bag every day. Homework books are due into school on a Tuesday and will be returned on a Thursday.

Thank you for your continued support.
