Welcome to Year 2!
Welcome back to all our pupils and families – we hope you had a relaxing Easter Break and are ready for the Summer Term
In Numeracy this term, we are revising our mental and written strategies for calculating using all four operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will use our knowledge of place value to help us with our addition and subtraction and solve problems in the context of money, measures and time using our strategies.
In Literacy, we have another new text – ‘Grace and Family’. This text thoughtfully explores issues of family and separation and we will use our skills of empathy to write in the first person in the style of letters and diary entries. We will also be focusing on our spelling and grammar skills in our writing, so remember to learn and practice your spellings every week!
This term, Y2 will be completing their SATs examinations in school. Therefore, it is vital that you continue to ensure that your child is in school every day. Weekly homework for Y2 will continue to take the form of practice SATs questions to familiarise the children with the style and format. If you have any questions regarding SATs testing, please speak to your child’s class teacher or Mrs Ellis.
Thank you for your continued support and input – we appreciate and value your feedback.
We love school!
As you will be aware, during May the Y2 pupils will be sitting their KS1 SATs examinations. It is imperative that your child is in school everyday during this period. There is no set day for the examinations. Should your child be ill on a test day, when your child is back in school, they will sit the test with their class teacher and any other pupils who missed the test.
