Year 4: Turquoise Emerald

Welcome to Year 4!

Welcome back to our lovely Year 4s!

We hope you are ready and excited for your final half term before the summer holidays. This year has gone so quickly!

This half term we are starting our new topic – ‘Different Places, Similar Lives’.  We will be learning about how people lead different lives. Even people in the same country, the same town or the same street can have different lifestyles. But they can have things in common, too – they can both like the same food or football team! We are going to find out about things that make us different and things that make us the same. This topic will broaden our eyes to the different cultures we have in the world and also help us understand that we have lots of things in common. We are going to be in contact with different primary schools who live in different places around the world – Let’s see if we can find some things we have in common!

In Literacy we will be covering poetry in many different forms and non-chronological reports linked to our topic. We will also be writing letters to our pen-pals to keep in touch with them and understand what differences and similarities we may have. In Maths we will be carrying on with our mental maths and introducing new topics, for example; co-ordinates.

We encourage all children to complete their homework which is due in every Tuesday and read with a parent/guardian or by themselves. Every child really benefits from home-learning!

PE is every Wednesday afternoon and children should have all the suitable PE kit in for that day.

We look forward to our Summer term!

Miss Boyle & Ms Dickson.

Come and see what your child will be learning about this half term.

The children have been writing news reports on the eruption of Mount Ontake in Japan during their topic. Here are some pictures from our reports. The children have been using the laptops to apply their knowledge of maths. Here they are working in small groups on different projects online. In Science we have been learning about the digestive system. Here are some photos of us eating bread and discussing how the texture changes in our mouth and moves on to our stomach.

The children in Emerald Class are performing their scripts from the story of Vulcan the god of fire.

What we have been learning in Year 4! We have been focusing on our topic Active Planet and using ICT to make fact files about different natural disasters. We also created a huge art piece of a volcano made from scrap paper.
