Welcome to Year 1!
Year 1 have been busy this half term learning about travelling. We learnt about different forms of transport and created our own rockets and cars.
Our next IPC topic will be ‘Flowers and Insects’ which will involve learning about different plants and how the seasons affect their growth. We will also learn about different materials and how they can keep us cool or warm.
In numeracy, we will be revising time and using our knowledge of time to solve problems.
In Literacy we learning how to write a non-fiction report and poetry and raps.

Scarlett Class have been practising for their Sports Day!
We took a look at odd and even numbers in Numeracy. Liam and Charlie were working out if there was a pattern when adding odd and even numbers together. Kaiden and Julia were sorting numbers into whether they are odd or if they are even.
In Literacy we have been learning about Play Scripts, in these pictures we were reading play scripts and acting out the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and the Three Little Pigs.
In this lesson, we were giving our partner clear instructions to draw a picture. We had to make sure our instructions were really easy to understand so that our partner did not get confused.
As part of our instructions topic, we read and followed instructions to make a snowflake, look how they turned out!
We have been looking at instructions and writing in the 2nd person so we sorted sentences into 1st person and 2nd person. Then we tried to write our own sentences!
Year 1 practised the Air Raid Siren
Year 1 have been learning how to cross the road safely during 'Safer Steps'
We have been learning about the different parts of the body in science and we worked in pairs to label them.
Year 1 have been watching our chicks grow and have had a chance to hold them!
Year 1 and Year 2 have been learning about lifecycles in science. To support this, the children have had the opportunity to watch these chicks hatch from their eggs. Please welcome Jeremy, Jemima, JJ and Charlie amongst others!
